Personal Branding
Summary: A living collection of Paul’s personal branding concepts, taglines, and sound-bites, built on leaning into the intersection of his corporate AI/data science career and his blacksmithing/leatherwork hobby, rather than picking one lane.

The core positioning: the intersection
Paul’s brand isn’t “AI executive” or “blacksmith.” It’s the collision of the two: 30 years as a corporate data science and AI leader (see about-me), paired with 13+ years as a working blacksmith and leathercraftsman under Blackthorn Workshop (source: conversation with Paul, 2026-07-08). The intersection itself is the hook, not a footnote to either half.
This is the same three-identity structure already built out visually in avatars: Officer Bear, Blacksmith Bear, and Data Scientist Bear. Personal branding, as tracked on this page, is the verbal layer, taglines and sound-bites, that pairs with that visual layer.
Taglines and sound-bites
- “North America’s Only AI-Powered Blacksmith.” Paul’s actual stage and webinar introduction line (source: conversation with Paul, 2026-07-08).
- “North America’s Only Blacksmith-Powered AI and Data Scientist.” A flip of the same intersection, swapping which half modifies which. Worth treating as a situational variant rather than a second, competing “only” claim, since both can’t literally hold at once, pick the framing that fits the room: lead with the AI credential for a data/exec audience, lead with the blacksmith credential for a craft or general audience.
(Space to add more as they come up. Short, ownable, and specific to the intersection is the bar, generic AI-leadership taglines don’t belong here.)
Pithy statements as branding material
Several of the memory aids already documented in my-leadership-principles work as stand-alone branding sound-bites in their own right, short, repeatable, ownable phrases that don’t need the AI/blacksmith intersection to land on their own:
- Better is Better
- Good Enough is Good Enough
- And, Not Or
- Fast in Series Beats Slow in Parallel
- More Than One Right Answer
- Stop the Dumb
- Feed the Beast
- Upgrade Your Shop
- Leaders Eat Last
- Be the Strong Zebra
Full explanations live on my-leadership-principles; this page just flags them as candidate branding material, on slides, in bios, as talk titles, rather than duplicating the content.
Where this feeds
- ted talk format: “North America’s Only AI-Powered Blacksmith” is close to a ready-made opening hook, a surprising, personal, ten-second line, exactly what that format calls for.
- delivery formats: as more delivery formats get mapped out (bios, talk titles, one-line intros), this page is the source of the language that goes into all of them, rather than each format reinventing its own framing.
- enduring-sustained-uncertainty: the blacksmithing half of the brand isn’t invented for marketing, it’s the real “otherness” practice documented there.
